James was the younger half-brother of Jesus who came to faith in Christ after Jesus appeared to him post-death in resurrected form. For the rest of his life, James would devote himself to following Jesus as Lord. From A.D. 44-62, James was the key leader of the early church before he died a martyr's death for his faith. The book of James is a general epistle, most likely sermon material edited into a letter that was then circulated to Jewish Christians scattered to Syria and eastward. In the book, he calls believers to spiritual maturity. James is an admonition toward true religion.
